TEIMUN Conference: Debate and Experience The Hague
TEIMUN, or the European International Model United Nations, is a six-day conference held every summer in The Hague (Netherlands), the international city of peace and security. It brings together young, ambitious students from all over the world to discover new solutions to conflicting international ideals and national interests. Each year, we welcome around 150 participants and 50 volunteers from more than 50 nationalities.
TEIMUN is the oldest University level MUN conference in the Netherlands and continental Europe, with over 35 years of experience. TEIMUN strikes the perfect balance between a professional atmosphere and social interaction among the delegates. Our councils are interesting and inspiring for beginner and veteran MUNers alike, and our cultural events and guest speakers are just as much part of the conference as the sessions.
During TEIMUN, students come together to simulate councils of the UN, the EU and NATO. There is always one overarching theme within which all councils discuss their own topics, while the participating students represent a delegation of a particular country in that council. By doing so, they learn to represent a country’s norms and values, even if they do not align with your own, and come to resolutions with the other council members.
The Hague: The Heart of National and International Governance
TEIMUN has its home in The Hague, the so-called International City of Peace and Justice. It is home to the International Criminal Court, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the International Court of Justice, and many other international organizations. The Hague is also the governmental centre of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Aside from the hustle and bustle of international political life, The Hague has a lot to offer to eager tourists, in case you are planning a visit in the future. Nearby is the beach in Scheveningen, where we normally organize our famous beach party every year. In the centre of The Hague you can visit countless museums and explore the city’s beautiful architecture. For those of you who do not have the time to see the rest of the Netherlands there is Madurodam, a miniature version of the country, where you can see all the features characteristic of Dutch culture.
